Xilitla, Mexico

 We have seen the signs and heard a little about the city of Xilitla but had never taken the time to go there.  But we decided to take the drive.  They were having services in the Catholic church so we didn't stay in there long but the plaza is beautiful.

 It is a beautiful drive up into the mountains of lush green.  There are no other cities nearby and so it is pretty isolated, nestled in the hills.  It was a colder and rainy day.  We tried to go to the exhibits created by an eccentric man to lived there about 50 years ago but because the President of Mexico, it seemed, was visiting this same village today the exhibit was closed.  So we visited the library which consisted of two rooms with very old books.  This is the childrens section.

As we were leaving the library a woman stepped in and asked if we needed help.  She spoke English and was from Texas.  She had moved there 13 years ago because she was Spanish major in college and wanted the experience Mexico offered her.  She met someone and married here and now has 2 children here.  She works at a hotel that used to be a private residence and told us to go there for a tour.  This is a picture of the walking street outside the Castillo where she works.  The streets are paved with stones.  

 This is one of the rooms in the hotel.  The windows look out over a portion of the city.  Because it was a rainy day the cloud were very low and didn't give us a great view but the architecture and design of the house was magnificent.  Maybe we can stay there someday.

This is the woman who grew up in the home and was kind enough to give us a tour of the house and give some personal information that made it more wonderful.  She was very kind.  Her father was brought to Xilitla from Sonora by the eccentric man that built much of the interesting displays in the city and so she was raised here.

We thought this was an interesting 4 level home with a roof that doesn't quite look like it belongs but never the less makes it photo worth.  And it definitely blend into the foliage.
