Today we drove very early to attend church in Tantoyuca. David and Nancy were there and invited us to his mother's house for comida after the meetings and the interviews that Dad needed to do. The mother invited them to live with her when David needed to find work so they moved from Panuco but the mother is very Catholic and didn't understand their desires to have scripture time and FHE together as a family. The house is very small and very non-private so it has been difficult. But he now has a job with Pemex and they are hoping to move to Tampico in the next few months. He has been in training for a couple of weeks and will soon receive a paycheck. We are so excited for them and excited that when we arrived today David and Nancy were in church together.
So we went to comida not knowing what to expect from the mother who has been negative about their baptism in the church. We have helped David and Nancy, especially Dad, with some very sensitive and difficult situations in their lives. And the mother could not thank us enough. She fed us moli and had some tears when we told her how much we loved her son and his wife and their children. When it came time to leave she hugged me and wouldn't let go saying, "Thank you for taking caring of my son." She stroked my hair and couldn't have been more appreciative. She had a much softer heart than what she had previously. The mother is the woman standing at the far end of the table with the longer hair. Nancy's mother was also there visiting for the day (sitting in front) and it was her birthday so we were celebrating for her. She is also not a member of the church but was very appreciative.
We caught the children of David and Nancy and their little cousin singing birthday greetings in the house so I grabbed a little of it on video. This is their living room/bedroom and who knows what else. Not just for David and Nancy but for whoever lives there. Hopefully there is another room in the back with another bed. We all ate outside but the doors to the houses are always just open to the world in these more secluded places.
