Our turtle, a.k.a. Slowpoke, Fastpoke, Cosmo, Austin Collie, Sparky and Flash, has not been sent to 'time out'. This is hibernation, Tampico style. He has had his head in the corner of our patio for two months except for a brief hour when the sun appeared and I found him on the grass with his neck stretched out in the sunshine. When it warms up he'll be out again begging for lettuce. Before I knew that tortoises hibernated, I tried to entice him out with some food and he seemed drugged and lethargic. I thought he was sick but instead he was just sleepy and doing what he was created to do.Monday, January 11, 2010

Gilbert is still hibernating too. Aren't they the best pet? You don't have to feed them for three months... They don't bark and their poops are hardly noticeable and they don't touch your leg with a cold nose.
