Last night we had the privilege of attending the first night of the annual youth conference. Each stake and district performed a traditional dance from a different part of Mexico. The first year we arrived in Mexico we attended a wonderful display of dancing like this but now we know many of the youth. It made the evening so wonderful. Here are a few pieces of one of the dances that was amazing. These youth are from the Bosque stake. It is a dance done with machetes. Machetes are an important part of everyday life for many people in Mexico. One of these young men is especially amazing. If you can find 2 machetes, give it a try. Maybe for the next family party. Instead of a dance-off, a machete-off for Chris, Jared, Aaron, Aaron and Denny. The thing is these guys had already done this dance once. Because of a malfunction of the music, they had them to it again at the end of the night. So they'd done this twice. They must have iron legs.
This last part of the dance is done with their bandanas over their eyes. Of course, the crowd went wild.
How we love the youth here in Mexico. They are just like the youth at home with desires to become more than they are and to do what is right. They have tremendous talents in many ways. There is so much hope and light in their eyes. We love our time with them.
As we were leaving, one of the young men from San Felipe gave me a pineapple with flowers on it that the dancers from Huasteca District used in their dance. So I put it on my shoulder like they did and...........
