Interviews in the Huasteca Zone

The last 2 weeks have been spent doing interviews.  We love being with the missionaries and Dad loves doing interviews now that there is so much positive energy in the mission.  We went for a walk in Huejutla after we arrived and, of course, happened upon an ice cream store.  The girl that helped us wasn't all that cheerful but the cherry ice cream was delicious.

 

 We always think it's interesting to look out the hotel window in the morning to see what we are surrounded by.  It's Mexico to stay in a decent hotel and across the street is a less than decent looking school.  It doesn't look too cheery to me but maybe the inside is filled with light and color.  RIGHT ???? 

 This is the common sight in every city in Mexico not just in the Huasteca.  Wires going every which way and who knows which ones are real and which ones died years ago.  How does anything work here?

We met this young man in San Felipe as we stopped to do interviews with one companionship.  He is a convert of 6 months and is blind from Glaucoma.  He lost all sight a couple of years ago.  But he can play the piano by listening to the hymns on a CD and then figuring it out by ear.  He is amazing.

As we walked in Huejutla we heard the bell from this old Catholic church that was build at the turn on the century (1900).  The construction is amazing as the ceiling is curved like the Tabernacle but is all stone and plaster.  I just had to stand outside to take a little video.  The people are so tied to the traditions that they can't see the emptiness of what they have.  But the missionaries are working to gather as many as possible and are finding success.
