A visit from the Area President

President Johnson, the Area President, and his wife, came to stay for a few days. He met with us and also the Assistants and our Zone Leaders. Later in the day we attended a special temple session with the Stake Presidents for the Tampico area and then everyone came to our home for dinner afterward. We learned so much from them and enjoyed the casual talks during breakfast and in the car. It was wonderful to have them in our home.
On Saturday he suggested that we have a P-day together. We drove to the Mica waterfalls outside of Valles. It was a rainy day and the clouds were beautiful down on the mountains. It was only 70 degrees. Quite different from what we're used to. Yes, that is a Mexican flag way up on that ledge. How did they get that up there?

The Falls were spectacular and the water was clear and blue instead of the brown muddy water we see in the rivers. It comes from springs inside the mountain.

In the lake area you can kayak and swim. The trees that grow along the river have the cool gnarly roots above ground. The Johnson's were personable and very kind to us. They were appreciative for the work we're doing and encouraged us to keep going in the same direction.

On Saturday night he met with newly baptized members, inactives, and youth in a fireside. Dad and I found out what we were to share on the way to the stake center. He spoke on the Joseph Smith story and my testimony was to focus on President Monson.

Later we came home and watched the second half of the sad BYU game together.

On Sunday morning we made a surprise visit to a ward on the outer edge of Tampico. It is an interesting building that is beautiful and built in a very poor area. It's like a temple amid the rubble. The members are wonderful and the Bishop is only 25 years old and has 2 small children. He was surprised but appreciative that they could have a member of the First Quorum of the 70 in their meetings. President Johnson took him outside after the meeting block to take a picture of his family.
